New Cohort of Peace Corps Volunteers Sworn In

By Josiah Williams

Eighteen new Peace Corps volunteers from the United States have been officially sworn in and will soon begin their assignments across Guyana, providing services in the health, education, and environment sectors.

This marks the 35th group of Peace Corps volunteers in the country.

During a ceremony, Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, encouraged the volunteers to not only fulfill their duties but also to engage with the local culture and communities.

The volunteers completed a nine-week training program to prepare for their work in schools, community health centers, and villages.

US Ambassador to Guyana, Nicole Theriot, emphasized that since its inception in 1961, the Peace Corps’ mission has remained centered on fostering peace and friendship.

Over 1,400 volunteers have contributed to Guyana’s development since 1966, working in remote communities across the country.
