Although the exact date of the visit has not been announced, Dr. Ali confirmed that discussions will cover both new and existing areas of cooperation.

One of the main topics on the agenda is financing for the completion of the Lethem to Mabura Hill Road project.

President Ali expressed his appreciation for the broad scope of cooperation between Guyana and China, which spans various sectors of national development.

This State visit marks a significant event as it will be the first official visit of a Guyanese Head of State to China in 20 years.

The last official visit was made by former President and current Vice President, Dr. Bharrat Jagdeo, who met with former Chinese President Hu Jintao in 2003.

Since assuming office in 2020, President Ali has emphasized the importance of the 50-year-long relations between Guyana and China.

He has repeatedly expressed gratitude for China’s support and leadership on global issues.

Guyana received an early donation of Sinopharm COVID-19 vaccines from China during the height of the pandemic in 2021, making it the first English-speaking Caribbean country to establish diplomatic relations with China back in 1972.

During the upcoming state visit, both countries aim to explore new avenues of cooperation and strengthen their longstanding partnership.
