Standing at approximately 400 feet tall, Guyana’s first digitalized broadcasting unit has been constructed and is in operation, thanks to the National Communications Network.

The tower weighs approximately 89 tons, which is the same as 1,270 humans packed into one room!

Underscoring the impact of the initiative to construct the tower, NCN’s Technical Manager, Devon Roberts, explained that it is one of the most important projects in Guyana’s broadcasting history.

“NCN’s radio service will improve significantly…we will be able to upgrade the Voice of Guyana from 90 watts to 5000 watts capacity…and the [other] stations will be able to broadcast in full capacity,” he explained.

He said that this new piece of equipment will ensure that broadcasting can continue uninterrupted on all channels.

“We will be able to continue broadcasting without impeding on other broadcasters at full capacity [and] with better quality using one antenna system on this new tower,” Roberts pointed out.

The tower also facilitates NCN’s transition to Digital Television (DTV) broadcasting, offering better video and audio quality, increased channel capacity, and interactive features.

What’s even more interesting about the new tower is that it now supports a dedicated digital sports channel, catering to the growing demand for sports content.
