The National Communications Network (NCN) and the wider community are mourning the loss of Franklin Langhorne, affectionately known as Sir Langhorne, who passed away on Thursday.
A respected educator and broadcaster, Mr. Langhorne dedicated over three decades to education and media, leaving a profound impact on many lives.
Beginning his career in education at the age of 19 after attending teachers’ college, Langhorne became renowned as one of the best English teachers in Guyana.
His passion for language and its role in success inspired countless students during his tenure as Head of the English Department at President’s College.
In 1985, Langhorne joined the Guyana Broadcasting Corporation (GBC), which later transitioned into NCN, where he became a beloved voice on the airwaves.
Up until August of this year, he was a committed broadcaster, even working late-night shifts.
Known for his punctuality, politeness, and eagerness to perfect his craft, Langhorne was not only a mentor to his colleagues but also a respected figure among listeners.
Colleagues and former students have spoken of his dedication, humility, and the valuable lessons he imparted.
Former students recalled how his teaching shaped their personal and professional growth, emphasizing his ability to teach life lessons through simple yet profound methods.
His contributions to education and broadcasting have left an indelible mark.
The Board of Directors, management, and staff of NCN expressed their condolences to his family, friends, and admirers.
