The National Communications Network (NCN) on Tuesday evening illuminated its administrative building on Homestretch Avenue as part of activities marking Guyana’s 60th Independence Anniversary.

Chairman of the NCN Board, Raymond Cummings, said the national broadcaster has a responsibility to promote unity and nation-building through its programming and public engagement. He noted that unlike 60 years ago, NCN now has the opportunity to tell Guyana’s story of progress, resilience, and national development.

“This gesture of the light up tonight is part of us showing that we are part of this nation and leading the way in terms of getting other organisations to understand that you don’t only sit and be spectators, but you could also be a part of what is happening around. And while we tell the stories of what is happening around, we also like sometimes to be part of the story,” he said.

Minister within the office of the Prime Minister with responsibility for Public Affairs, Kwame McCoy praised NCN staff and management for the initiative. He said the ceremony reflects national pride, patriotism, and the spirit of unity as Guyana celebrates six decades of independence.

“The decorative and illuminative beauty of the occasion certainly connects with us, with the nostalgic euphoria of our independence, to that historic moment of 60 years when Guyana first raised this Golden Arrowhead as a free and sovereign nation, and tonight, as we light up the headquarters of NCN,” he said.
