November 13, 2024

The National Centre for Educational Resource Development (NCERD) concluded its three-day Social Studies exhibition today, aimed at enhancing the teaching and learning of Social Studies, Geography, and Caribbean History at the secondary level.

The exhibition was designed to provide innovative resources and methods to improve student performance while fostering critical thinking and decision-making skills.

The event attracted a large turnout from both public and private schools across Guyana. It provided a platform for teachers to explore best practices and effective teaching strategies that they can implement in their classrooms.

Senior Education Officer for the Social Studies Unit, Shemlyn Batson, expressed satisfaction with the success of the event, highlighting its importance in preparing teachers for the upcoming academic year.

The exhibition also focused on ensuring that all educators are adequately equipped to support students preparing for the Caribbean Examinations Council (CXC) Social Studies exams in 2025.

Batson emphasized that the event was not only an opportunity to showcase resources but also a vital step in strengthening the education system.

Teachers were able to engage with new ideas and practices that they could adopt to improve their students’ learning experiences.

The three-day event was aligned with the theme, “Igniting Minds, Transforming Societies,” reflecting the NCERD’s ongoing commitment to enhancing educational standards across the country.

NCERD’s focus on teacher training, resource provision, and support for students is central to its mission of advancing education in Guyana and fostering success in secondary education.
