In a significant move to elevate local talent and highlight Guyana’s cricketing excellence, the inaugural National T20 League will kick off tomorrow at the La Bonne Intention (LBI) Ground on the East Coast of Demerara.

Organized by the Guyana Cricket Board (GCB) under the patronage of President Dr. Irfaan Ali, this tournament will feature 90 local players across six teams: Berbice Caimans, Demerara Hawks, Essequibo Jaguars, Berbice Piranhas, Demerara Pitbulls, and Essequibo Anacondas.

Minister of Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., expressed his confidence that the league would become a cornerstone of Guyana’s cricket calendar, emphasizing the far-reaching impact of the sport on the country.

He noted that cricket touches every aspect of life in Guyana, whether through players, coaches, or administrators.

GCB President Bissoondyal Singh echoed these sentiments, asserting that the tournament would serve as a platform to identify and nurture the nation’s next generation of cricket stars.

With 18 preliminary matches leading up to the grand finale, Singh highlighted the league’s role in reinforcing Guyana’s reputation as a cricket powerhouse and its commitment to expanding the development of the sport.

The opening day of the tournament will feature a clash between the Essequibo Jaguars and Demerara Hawks at 14:00 hours, followed by a match between the Demerara Pitbulls and Berbice Caimans at 19:00 hours.
