National Security Advisor Reassures Guyanese of GDF Capability Amid Border Controversy

National Security Advisor Captain Gerry Gouveia has affirmed that measures have been implemented by the Guyana Defence Force (GDF) to ensure the safety and protection of the nation amidst the ongoing border controversy with Venezuela.

Addressing concerns during an appearance on the Dr. Randy Persaud Show, Captain Gouveia refuted claims that the armed forces are inactive while Venezuela proceeds with plans for the December 3 referendum.

Captain Gouveia clarified that Camp Ayanganna serves as the GDF’s headquarters but is not the sole base for operations.

He disclosed that joint services personnel have been deployed to bordering communities, working diligently in those areas to enhance national security.

The National Security Advisor emphasized President Irfaan Ali’s call for citizens to rely on official government releases regarding the ongoing controversy.

This appeal follows the circulation of false content on social media platforms, aimed at instigating fear and heightening tensions at the country’s borders.

Amid the diplomatic challenges, Captain Gouveia’s reassurance underscores the commitment of Guyana’s armed forces to safeguarding the nation and maintaining stability.
