The Protected Areas Commission (PAC) unveiled the National Park Zoning Plan and initiated stakeholders’ engagement in a bid to enhance the National Park’s role as a hub for family recreation, fitness, health, and wellness.
Under the newly introduced zoning approach, several areas within the National Park, previously underutilized, are earmarked for development.
These developments aim to accommodate a diverse range of leisure, health, and fitness activities.
Proposed additions include facilities for mini golf, paintball, an equestrian space, designated concessional areas, boat tours, and electric vehicle charging outlets.
Commissioner Jason Fraser emphasized the collaborative nature of the beautification and rehabilitation projects, highlighting partnerships with stakeholders such as the Football Association and Rugby Association.
He stressed the commitment to keeping the park accessible to all, with any necessary fees intended solely for maintenance purposes.
Chairman of the Protected Area Commission, Robert Persaud, underscored the importance of caring for the park’s facilities, emphasizing the efforts dedicated to improving the urban park for the benefit of all Guyanese.
He called for support from park users and stakeholders to ensure the successful realization of the park’s potential.
Consultations on the proposed plans will continue, with efforts aimed at completion by the end of the year.
The launch event also coincided with Earth Day observances under the theme “Planet vs. Plastic,” with Earth Day set to be celebrated on Monday, April 22.
