National Assembly Passes ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies Bill 2024

In a significant development, the National Assembly recently passed the International Cricket Council (ICC) Cricket World Cup West Indies Bill, setting the legal groundwork for the smooth and structured organization of the upcoming ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies 2024 and associated activities.

Minister Charles Ramson Jr, addressing the assembly, underscored the importance of cricket as a national asset deserving widespread support.

He emphasized that the ICC Cricket World Cup 2024 Bill is essential to establish the legal framework necessary for the successful hosting of the T20 World Cup tournament.

In his remarks, Minister Ramson Jr highlighted that formalizing this legislation demonstrates the government’s commitment to promoting sport tourism and fostering the development of cricket in the region.

He emphasized that the bill is a crucial step forward in ensuring the efficient execution of the upcoming mega event.

Supporting the bill, Attorney General and Minister of Legal Affairs Anil Nandlall emphasized the significance of cricket as Guyana’s national sport and stressed the magnitude of hosting such a prestigious event.

Minister Nandlall highlighted the importance of having laws in place to facilitate the smooth operation of the tournament, given its regional scale and significance.

Under the provisions of the bill, the legal framework will remain in effect throughout the duration of the T20 World Cup, scheduled to be hosted in the USA and the Caribbean from June 1 to 29.

Guyana is set to host group stage matches from June 2 to 8, as well as the semi-final on June 26 at the National Stadium Providence, East Bank of Demerara.

Additionally, matches will be hosted in five other Caribbean countries.

The passage of the ICC Cricket World Cup West Indies Bill 2024 marks a significant milestone in Guyana’s preparations for hosting this prestigious international sporting event, underscoring the country’s commitment to promoting cricket and fostering regional cooperation in sports.
