National Accreditation Council Prioritizes Quality Education Delivery

Ensuring quality control within the education sector remains a paramount objective for the government as they strive to meet both national and international standards of educational delivery. Dr. Marcel Hutson, Executive Director of the National Accreditation Council, emphasized the pivotal role of the council in achieving this goal during a capacity training workshop.

Dr. Hutson underscored that the National Accreditation Council must act as a catalyst for change, guaranteeing that individuals entering the education sector possess the necessary skills and competencies required for national progress. He emphasized that the council’s work must mirror quality control systems to protect vulnerable parents, students, and guardians from potential exploitation by unscrupulous business interests.

Dr. Hutson further stressed the importance of examining and recognizing skill sets to uphold quality and establish a reputation for higher education in Guyana. This, he highlighted, would ensure that the contributions made by students and workers align with international standards and complement Guyana’s national development agenda.

Addressing the workshop, Chairman of the National Accreditation Council, Mohandatt Goolsarran, emphasized the critical role of integrity in conducting assessments of institutions to meet quality control objectives. He highlighted that evaluations are conducted confidentially to maintain the integrity of the process, thereby addressing concerns from institutions.

The workshop also included an examination of the current evaluation instrument, with suggestions sought for its enhancement. The event, held at the National Centre of Educational Resources Development (NCERD), was themed “Building Capacity to Effectively Meet the Needs of Higher Educational Institutions in Guyana: A Focus on Quality and Exclusivity in Pursuit of Regional and International Standards.”
