The Guyana Powerlifting Federation’s Senior National Championships, held at the St. Stanislaus College auditorium over the weekend, saw standout performances from Nangita Seenarine, Ashlie Abraham, and Joseph Stoll, who each set new national records in their respective categories.
Nangita Seenarine dominated the 47 kg women’s open equipped category, breaking national records in Squat, Bench Press, Deadlift, and Total.
She lifted 122.5 kg in the squat, 55 kg in the bench press, and 137.5 kg in the deadlift, with a total of 315 kg.
Ashlie Abraham claimed victory in the 84 kg women’s open classic class, setting three new records: a bench press of 77.5 kg, a deadlift of 180 kg, and a new total of 400 kg.
Joseph Stoll, competing in the Masters 3, 93 kg classic division, recorded a squat of 150 kg, a bench press of 75 kg, and a deadlift of 170 kg, culminating in a new total of 395 kg.
Other notable performances included Matthew Maycock, who won the men’s Masters 1 Classic after breaking the squat record.
Fazim Abdool dominated the men’s open equipped and men’s Masters 1 equipped categories, setting a new deadlift record of 297.5 kg to secure the best lifter seniors equipped overall title.
Marlon Wilson impressed with a new deadlift record in the men’s Masters 1 classic, edging out Paul Meusa and Sereste King in the 105 kg class.
Mariah Bacchus made her mark in the women’s 76 kg class, setting new records in squat (132.5 kg), deadlift (142.5 kg), and total (327.5 kg) after outlifting Shelly Ann Gomes and Grace Jarvis.
Duarte Hetsberger triumphed in the men’s open 83 kg category, overcoming competition from Meshach Alexander and Irshaad Ali, and also set a new record in the men’s Masters 1 classic division.
Other winners included Kezia Joseph in the women’s open classic 69 kg category and Nigel Duguid in the men’s 93 kg open classic category.
