A list of individuals involved in irregularities within Guyana’s driver licensing system will soon be made public. President Dr. Irfaan Ali made this remark today, explaining that the reconciliation process is currently underway.
“The reconciliation is ongoing, and what you will see very soon is a list published of persons who will be asked to come and explain themselves. So I know that that list has been prepared,” he told reporters on Wednesday.
He acknowledged that enforcement remains a challenge despite increased fines, but noted that new measures, including camera monitoring, are being introduced to strengthen the system.
“So I’ve asked the Attorney General to once again look at what additional measures will be needed and to ensure that wherever amendments are needed, those amendments will be in place,” he said.
The announcement follows a technology-driven audit that uncovered serious breaches, including practical driving certificates being issued to individuals who had not passed a theory test, and in some cases, licenses granted without completing the exam at all. Authorities are warning that anyone who bypassed proper procedures have six weeks to come forward or face prosecution, license suspension, and public disclosure.
