By Shawnette Fiedtkou

In the wake of a devastating house fire that tragically claimed the life of one-year-old Azeza Albert in Buckville, her mother, Anikha Harris, continues to grapple with profound grief and trauma, even three months after the incident.

Anikha recently gave birth to a baby boy via Caesarean section, marking a bittersweet moment amidst her ongoing struggle to cope with the loss of her daughter.

The fire, which occurred on October 24, 2023, not only resulted in the loss of Azeza’s life but also left Anikha displaced and uncertain about her future.

Despite the joy of welcoming her newborn son, named Ethan, Anikha remains deeply affected by the tragic events.

Anikha revealed that the pregnancy with Ethan was high-risk, complicated by her battle with high blood pressure induced by the trauma of losing Azeza, whom she affectionately called ‘fatty’.

The birth of Ethan, however, concluded a challenging pregnancy journey for Anikha.

Support has poured in for Anikha from various sources since the fire, including the Ministry of Human Services, Minister of Education Priya Manickchand, local businesses, and compassionate individuals.

Nevertheless, Anikha’s mother, Michelle Pierre, remains her strongest pillar of support.

Pierre expressed concerns about her daughter’s mental well-being, emphasizing the severe trauma she endured due to the tragic incident.

Anikha has yet to undergo grief counseling since the fire, and she continues to take each day as it comes, navigating through the aftermath of the tragedy one step at a time.

Despite the challenges, Anikha remains grateful for the support she has received and the arrival of her newborn son, Ethan.

For those willing to offer support to Anikha and her family during this difficult time, they can reach her directly at 682-6665 or contact her mother, Michelle Pierre, at 611-1617.
