Moore and Assanah Secure Top Titles at Fitness Express Novices and Juniors Championship

The Guyana Amateur Powerlifting Federation (GAPLF) hosted its Novices and Juniors Championship on Sunday at the Saint Stanislaus College Auditorium, where standout performances were delivered by Matthew Moore and Jasmaine Assanah.

The competition featured 12 lifters competing across the squat, deadlift, and bench press categories.

Moore dominated the men’s division, securing the Best Lifter award in the Junior Classic category, while Joshua John was named the Novice Classic Best Lifter.

Both lifters demonstrated impressive strength and consistency throughout their events.

Moore claimed the 83kg Men’s Junior Classic and Men’s Open Raw categories, achieving a total lift of 440kg after squatting 165kg, bench-pressing 92.5kg, and deadlifting 182.5kg.

John excelled in the 93kg Men’s Open Classic, with a combined total of 570kg after recording a 200kg squat, 140kg bench press, and 230kg deadlift.

In the women’s competition, Assanah dominated the 57kg Women’s Junior Classic and Open categories, posting a total lift of 290kg.

She recorded a squat of 112.5kg, a bench press of 37.5kg, and a deadlift of 140kg.

Tisha McCalmon emerged victorious in the 84+kg Women’s Open Raw and Women’s Master 1 Raw divisions, securing the Best Women’s Classic title with a total of 295kg.

She achieved a 100kg squat, 40kg bench press, and 155kg deadlift.

Other winners at the event included Nichlous Sukhram, Saif Khan, Parmanand Ramrekha, Jermaine Kendall, Satyanand Narine, Adrian Moore, Carl Damon, and Kamal Gurdin.

The top performers were awarded gift vouchers, courtesy of the event’s title sponsor, Fitness Express.

The GAPLF’s next major event will be its Annual General Meeting and elections.
