Monedderlust FC kept their hopes alive for another season in the KFC Elite League after securing a crucial draw against Santos FC on Thursday at the Guyana Football Federation National Training Center.
The Berbice-based team, battling to avoid relegation after 10 losses this season, held Santos to a 0-0 stalemate, showing their determination to remain in the league.
Coming off a 5-1 victory against Fruta Conquerors, Monedderlust currently sits in eighth place and is on track to automatically qualify for Season 7 of the Elite League.
Santos, with 9 wins and 6 losses in 15 games, struggled to break down Monedderlust’s resilient defense.
The match saw several ill-tempered moments, with Monedderlust’s Jaden Them and Paul McDonald, along with Santos’ Shem James, receiving yellow cards.
Despite the tension, neither team could find the back of the net.
Meanwhile, Slingerz FC has moved to the top of the table with 13 wins and 3 draws in 16 matches.
Their next key fixture will be against defending champions, Guyana Defense Force (GDF), who currently sit in second place with 13 wins in 14 games.
GDF remains poised to defend their title, with four games still to play.
Police FC holds the third spot with 11 wins, 1 draw, and 3 losses from 15 matches.
The KFC Elite League continues on Saturday with a doubleheader featuring Fruta Conquerors versus Police FC, and GDF against Western Tigers.
The league winner will receive a $2 million prize, while the runner-up will take home $1.2 million.
