Mohryan Baksh Gears Up for Caribbean Junior Squash Championship

By Tyriq Walters

As the Caribbean squash championship approaches, Mohryan Baksh, representing the Guyana Squash Association (GSA), is ready to showcase his skills on the court.

In an exclusive interview with NCN’s Tyriq Walters at the Georgetown Club on Camp Street, Baksh expressed his excitement about the upcoming tournament.

Baksh, set to compete in the under-19 junior category, sees it as an honor to represent Guyana, especially considering the limited spots available for the tournament.

With dedication and determination, he aims to make his country proud.

Reflecting on his recent performance at the woodpecker junior championship, Baksh highlighted areas for improvement, particularly focusing on his fitness.

Recognizing that his fitness level hindered his performance in the nationals, he is committed to enhancing his fitness to deliver better results in the upcoming championship.

Despite the challenge of facing squad captain Nicholas Verway, also the national and Caribbean junior squash champion, Baksh maintains a competitive spirit.

While they train together and share mutual respect off the court, once they step onto the court, it’s an all-out battle.

The junior squash squad, consisting of 40 players across various age categories, undergoes rigorous training to prepare for competitions.

Training sessions include running three miles weekly at the National Park and court time to hone their skills.

As Baksh and his fellow teammates intensify their training regimen, they aim to make a significant impact at the Caribbean squash championship, representing Guyana with pride and determination.
