The Ministry of Public Works has issued a cautionary advisory to all truck and heavy-duty equipment operators traversing the Linden to Lethem corridor, urging vigilance amidst ongoing repair efforts due to damages caused by recent intense rainfall.
Following a significant section collapse at the Kurupukari crossing, measuring approximately 20 feet in width and 6 feet in depth, emergency response teams from the Ministry have been mobilized to address the critical situation.
The swift flow of water at the site has necessitated immediate action to prevent further deterioration.
Drivers, especially those handling heavy-duty machinery and trucks, are implored to exercise caution along various sections of the trail, which have also been impacted by the recent heavy rainfall.
Notably, the Pirara bridge has experienced a substantial rise in water levels, leading to the inundation of the approach road and bridge itself.
Commuters are advised to approach these areas with extreme caution, particularly when attempting to cross the bypass.
Furthermore, the Guyana Police Force has alerted citizens to potential traffic delays along the trail and advises planning accordingly.
The effects of the rainfall extend beyond the Kurupukari area, with reports of flooding in the north Rupununi region, particularly affecting the Surama village roadway at Sabba Strick.
Similarly, in the South Pakaraimas, the Yurora Bridge in Karasabai village is impassable due to approximately five feet of water depth, rendering it inaccessible to vehicles.
Additionally, the Tigerpond access road bridge in Karasabai and five houses in Karasabai Village have been submerged, further exacerbating the situation.
Collaborative efforts involving the Ministries of Public Works and Agriculture, along with other state agencies, are actively monitoring the rainfall’s effects on various areas, undertaking repair works, and providing relief as needed.
As the Ministry initiates repair efforts along the Linden-Lethem trail and addresses other affected regions, vigilance and caution remain paramount for all commuters and residents alike.
