In a commendable move, the Ministry of Culture, Youth, and Sport has stepped in to sponsor the annual Independence three-stage road race, ensuring its staging next month.
Minister of Culture, Youth, and Sport, Charles Ramson Jr., recently provided assurance to the Guyana Cycling Federation (GCF) that the government would fund this year’s edition of the prestigious event.
Carina Westford, an executive of the GCF, expressed elation at this development, highlighting the significance of government support for the race.
Scheduled to take place on May 18 and 19, the Independence three-stage road race is a highlight on the local cycling calendar, attracting top talent from Guyana and beyond.
Westford indicated that details regarding the prize structure for the event would be announced soon, underscoring the anticipation surrounding the competition.
Notably, this year’s race is expected to feature participation from renowned international cyclists, elevating the event’s profile and competitiveness.
The inclusion of international cyclists adds an extra layer of excitement and prestige to the race, further enhancing its appeal to both participants and spectators.
