In an effort to combat traffic congestion and improve road infrastructure, the Ministry of Public Works has embarked on the construction of turning lanes at key intersections in Georgetown and Providence.

The ongoing efforts to address traffic congestion involve widening major roads and adding turning lanes at critical junctions across the country.

Excavation works have already commenced at the intersection of Homestretch Avenue and Vlissingen Road in Georgetown.

Public Works Minister Juan Edghill highlighted that the construction will facilitate seamless movement, with an entire lane dedicated to turning from Vlissingen Road into Homestretch Avenue.

Similarly, Red Road in Providence is undergoing transformation into a four-lane road to accommodate increased traffic flow.

Minister Edghill emphasized that geometric improvements are being made to address turning issues from Red Road onto the East Bank Highway.

These improvements include the creation of dedicated turning lanes to facilitate smoother traffic transitions.

Minister Edghill expressed the ministry’s commitment to completing these projects promptly, aiming to finish before upcoming events such as cricket matches.

The ongoing construction efforts, operating day and night, reflect the collaborative efforts between the Ministry of Public Works and the Central Housing and Planning Authority.

As the government remains dedicated to enhancing transportation infrastructure, these initiatives signal a step forward in alleviating traffic congestion and improving road safety for all citizens.
