The Ministry of Labour has announced a 25% reduction in the number of worker complaints in 2024 compared to the previous year, crediting the decline to enhanced outreach efforts.
Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton shared the data during a press conference, highlighting the ministry’s commitment to improving the workplace environment.
The reduction is seen as a result of increased seminars and outreach programs designed to educate both employers and employees about workers’ rights and responsibilities.
These initiatives aim to resolve potential issues before they escalate into formal complaints.
Despite the overall reduction in complaints, the private security sector remains a significant source of grievances, which the Ministry is focusing on addressing moving forward.
Additionally, Minister Hamilton reported that over the past four years, the ministry has successfully recovered over $200 million in unpaid wages for employees.
In 2024 alone, $31.7 million was recovered on behalf of workers.
The Ministry of Labour continues its efforts to ensure fair compensation and protect workers’ rights, with ongoing inspections across the country’s ten administrative regions.
