During the presentation of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security’s 2023 progress report, Dr. Vindhya Persaud outlined key initiatives that Budget 2024 is expected to fund.
The focus will be on expanding services and training within the ministry.
The upcoming budget is set to support the digitization of records and the decentralization of services, aiming to enhance efficiency and accessibility.
Dr. Persaud emphasized the importance of improving record-keeping and building a comprehensive database covering all categories of citizens benefiting from ministry services, including pensioners and individuals with disabilities.
One significant project involves decentralizing digitally, ensuring that officers have access to a read-only system, enabling them to monitor the application process.
This initiative aims to provide more accessible information to the public.
In addition to digital advancements, the ministry plans to explore the creation of a gender-based violence compliance initiative in 2024.
Dr. Persaud detailed a proposed collaboration with companies to establish a Gender-Based Violence (GBV) seal.
This initiative would involve training companies to comply with empowerment principles, ensuring equal opportunities for women and fostering workplaces free from harassment and gender-based violence.
Other priorities outlined for Budget 2024 include refurbishing several children’s homes and the construction and operation of a special home for children with disabilities.
These initiatives align with the ministry’s commitment to enhancing the well-being and support systems for vulnerable populations.
The comprehensive plans for Budget 2024 underscore the ministry’s dedication to advancing social services, promoting gender equality, and providing better care for marginalized communities.
