In a significant move aimed at enhancing administrative accessibility and strengthening national unity, the Ministry of Home Affairs is undertaking a comprehensive reorganization of traditional departments within the Guyana Police Force (GPF).

The initiative is designed to streamline services and foster increased engagement between citizens and government bodies.

Minister of Home Affairs, Robeson Benn, emphasized the importance of providing quality service during the inauguration of the new Brickdam Police Station.

He highlighted that leadership, management, and operational detachment are crucial points where improvements can be made to address community issues and enhance interactions with the public.

Minister Benn stated, “What happens in relation to crime in the country depends a lot on how things are performed in Georgetown. The better examples in terms of policing are given in Georgetown itself.”

He stressed the need for effective leadership and management to improve situations within communities and the police force.

Acting Commissioner of Police Clifton Hicken also expressed support for the reorganization, noting that it aligns with the force’s transition to a service-oriented approach. Hicken mentioned that traditional departments, previously located at Ever Leary and other areas, will now be consolidated at Headquarters to ease the burden on individuals traveling to headquarters for services.

The strategic placement of departments at Brickdam is expected to enhance response times and overall efficiency.

The construction for the reorganization will be carried out by R. Bassoo and Company in collaboration with Qing Jian Group Company Guyana Incorporated.

The initiative reflects the government’s commitment to modernizing and optimizing the operations of the Guyana Police Force to better serve the needs of the public.

This reorganization effort is part of broader initiatives by the Ministry of Home Affairs to modernize and improve various sectors within the country’s law enforcement agencies.

The government aims to create a more efficient and accessible police force that aligns with the evolving needs of the community.

As the project progresses, the Ministry of Home Affairs will work closely with the Guyana Police Force to ensure a smooth transition and effective implementation of the reorganized departments.

The reorganization is expected to contribute significantly to the overall improvement of police services and community engagement.
