The Ministry of Health is set to launch updated guidelines to combat various diseases, including diabetes and HIV.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony announced that the new provisions are expected to contribute to a decrease in the number of cases.
By the end of this month, the Ministry of Health will launch the new guidelines for diabetes prevention and treatment, and they are expected to promote the use of the haemoglobin A1C (HbA1C) testing method, replacing the glucose screening test, among other improvements.
The ministry will also intensify efforts to encourage more individuals to use HIV self-testing kits, supporting the work of increasing the use of PREP—a preventive medicine for those at risk of HIV through sexual contact or injection drug use.
In addition, with the knowledge the Malaria remains a challenge in some regions, particularly in regions 1, 7, 8, and 9, Guyana’s malaria data is being reviewed to facilitate more targeted interventions.
The Ministry of Health will continue to advocate for the use of malaria bed nets as an essential preventive measure against mosquito-borne transmission.
Simultaneously, efforts will be made to promote treatment adherence among infected individuals.
