The Ministry of Health (MOH) is set to expand its medical screening program to include secondary school students, building on the success of its previous initiatives.
The program, which began in August 2023, has already benefited thousands of nursery and primary school children across the country by offering preventative care and early detection of health issues.
In 2024, the Ministry successfully screened 17,311 nursery school children and 19,554 primary school students.
These screenings included checks for dental, hearing, and eye health, along with general health assessments.
Children identified with health issues were referred for additional care at clinics or hospitals.
Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony emphasized that the goal of the program is to promote healthier lifestyles and provide follow-up treatment when necessary.
The expansion to secondary schools will further the Ministry’s aim of enhancing child health outcomes across Guyana.
The program is a joint effort between the Ministries of Health and Education, and it continues to have a significant impact on improving the health and wellbeing of young people nationwide.
