The Ministry of Health has diagnosed and treated more than 24,000 cases of malaria in 2024, as reported by Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony.
This significant number highlights the continued efforts to combat the disease and prevent its spread.
Dr. Anthony shared these statistics during the Ministry’s year-end press conference, revealing that 24,169 cases of malaria were identified throughout the year.
In addition, the Ministry distributed 109,523 insecticide-treated bed nets as part of its preventive measures, and conducted rapid testing to identify and treat cases more efficiently.
The Ministry’s initiatives also include training miners across the country to use rapid diagnostic tests.
These trained miners can now diagnose, treat, and report malaria cases directly from their camps, helping to reduce transmission in remote areas.
Guyana has also been actively involved in the Disease Elimination Initiative (DEI) launched by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) and the World Health Organization (WHO) in 2019, with a focus on eliminating malaria as part of the country’s broader health system transformation efforts.
