The Ministry of Health has received a generous donation of testing and medical equipment from Mount Sinai Health System Hospital and HESS Corporation.
The handover took place at the Ministry’s Brickdam office, and the donated items include sensory testing kits intended for screening nursery-aged children in the upcoming academic year.
Dr. Frank Anthony, the Health Minister, expressed his appreciation for the donation, emphasizing its significance in promoting good preventative health measures at the school level in Guyana.
The Ministry had collaborated with Mount Sinai Health System Hospital to devise measures to be implemented at the nursery level, ensuring that every child receives essential check-ups covering their sight, hearing, oral health, and overall physical well-being, and the goal is to screen approximately 27,000 nursery school children by the end of the year.
Dr. Anthony highlighted that the Comprehensive Child and Youth Programme (CYHP), which will be introduced at the nursery level, will eventually expand to encompass primary and secondary levels.
All screening records will be properly filed for future reference if necessary.
Josuè Alcàntara, the Country Director of Mount Sinai, expressed the company’s commitment to supporting the Ministry of Health, stating that they are pleased to provide these supplies for the much-needed screening of children and youth in Guyana.
The CYHP is set to launch in the coming weeks and will cover all ten administrative regions of the country, ensuring improved health outcomes for the nation’s young population.
