The Ministry of Health is calling on citizens with spinal cord injuries to utilize its rehabilitation services and access the necessary medical assistance.
Physiotherapist Kamini Reddi emphasized the ministry’s commitment to increasing the recovery rate for this condition.
Spinal cord injury encompasses damage to any part of the spine or the nerves at the end of the cord.
In Guyana, prevalent causes of this condition include motor vehicle accidents, gunshot wounds, sports injuries, or surgical complications.
Reddi highlighted that while there is a high demand for rehabilitation services, the turnout rate remains relatively low.
The ministry is actively addressing this issue through various initiatives, prioritizing the well-being of citizens.
She encouraged individuals with spinal cord injuries to register with the ministry for access to physiotherapy and occupational therapy.
Rehabilitation services are accessible across the country, and additional assistance, including the provision of devices, is also available.
This concerted effort by the Ministry of Health aims to provide comprehensive support to individuals with spinal cord injuries, facilitating their recovery and enhancing their overall quality of life.
