Ministry of Health Launches Telemedicine in Moruca, Region One

Residents of Waramuri and Kwebana villages in the Moruca sub-district of Region One now have enhanced access to specialized healthcare services through a newly commissioned telemedicine facility.

Health Minister Dr. Frank Anthony inaugurated the telemedicine center, marking a significant advancement in healthcare delivery for remote communities.

The telemedicine system facilitates access to specialized medical services such as ultrasounds, cardiology, oncology, and more.

It connects Community Health Workers and Medexes in local health centers with expert doctors and specialists in Georgetown and beyond.

This connectivity allows for timely consultations and interventions, bridging the gap between remote regions and central healthcare facilities.

Dr. Anthony underscored the importance of training opportunities provided through the telehealth system.

He highlighted that local community members, including health workers, can undergo training online to become registered nurses without needing to travel to Georgetown.

This initiative aims to build local capacity and improve healthcare provision within the region.

During the commissioning, a medical team was deployed to the sub-district for four days.

They provided a range of essential services including dentistry, screenings, audiology tests, and oncology consultations.

This outreach effort aimed to address immediate healthcare needs while showcasing the capabilities of the newly established telemedicine infrastructure.

The Ministry of Health continues to prioritize expanding healthcare access across Guyana.

The telemedicine facility in Moruca is part of broader efforts to decentralize healthcare services, ensuring equitable access to quality healthcare for all Guyanese citizens.
