Following the tragic deaths of two siblings from Canefield East Canje Berbice, the Ministry of Health has taken swift action, dispatching an expert group to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident at the New Amsterdam Hospital.

Eleven-year-old Vishnu Mohabeer, known as Ricardo, was rushed to the New Amsterdam Hospital on Sunday, where he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

His sister, nine-year-old Arianna, who was also unwell, was admitted to the same hospital the following day.

Unfortunately, her condition deteriorated rapidly, leading to her passing on Wednesday.

Their mother, Reanna Persaud, recounted the harrowing experience to the media, describing her son’s sudden illness and subsequent passing.

She mentioned that after Ricardo was found unresponsive in his bed, she rushed him to the hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Concerned about her daughter’s health, Persaud decided to seek medical attention for her as well, given her symptoms of fever.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Health issued a statement confirming that both cases are under investigation.

All relevant reports have been forwarded to the Chief Medical Officer for review.

In a gesture of compassion, Regional Chairman David Armogan and Regional Health Officer Dr. Vishalya Sharma visited the grieving family to offer condolences and assure them of the regional administration’s commitment to providing support during this difficult time.

As investigations continue, the community mourns the loss of these young lives, and efforts are underway to determine the circumstances surrounding their untimely deaths.
