Ministry of Health Initiates Central Repository for Credible Health Information

Empowering Informed Decisions and Advancing Research in Healthcare

In a bid to meet the escalating demand for a centralized, reliable source of health information, the Ministry of Health is taking a significant stride by introducing a Central Repository.

This dynamic platform is envisioned to function as an extensive resource center, tailored to cater to the needs of researchers, healthcare professionals, and the wider public.

Health Minister, Dr. Frank Anthony, underscores the pivotal significance of this endeavor. He emphasizes that easy access to credible, current health data plays a critical role in shaping informed decisions, enhancing the quality of healthcare delivery, and propelling medical research forward.

The Central Repository’s primary mission extends beyond mere data consolidation; it aims to become a trusted reservoir of accurate health information for individuals seeking reliable guidance.

In tandem with the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO), Guyana is set to receive invaluable support in realizing this ambitious undertaking.

Eliane Santos, an Advisor from PAHO’s Knowledge Management Team, stresses the importance of providing evidence-based information to empower individuals in making informed health-related decisions, particularly in the face of misinformation.

To bolster this ambitious venture, the Ministry, in conjunction with PAHO/WHO, has initiated a five-day Virtual Health Library Database and InterNetwork Access to Research Initiative training.

This workshop aims to arm healthcare professionals with the necessary tools to delve into health issues using peer-reviewed and evidence-based research conducted by their peers.

The establishment of this Central Repository signifies the Ministry of Health’s commitment to leveraging technology and information resources for the betterment of healthcare services and research outcomes in Guyana.

This initiative marks a significant stride towards empowering individuals with the tools and knowledge necessary to make informed health decisions, ultimately advancing the nation’s healthcare landscape.
