In its continued effort to enhance healthcare across Guyana, the Ministry of Health recently celebrated the graduation of 92 health professionals in Region 2.

The ceremony, held at the Suddie Public Hospital Training Centre, saw the completion of training for 37 Nursing Assistants, 19 Post-Basic Midwives, 20 Medical Laboratory Technicians, and 15 Operating Theatre Technicians.

Minister of Health, Dr. Frank Anthony, addressed the graduates, emphasizing the importance of continuous learning throughout their careers.

He said, “As you graduate, we want to make sure you take a career path. It’s not enough to just finish your CXC and think that’s the end of the goal; you have to constantly think about the journey of learning, what it is that you want to do, and where you want to be five years from now. Start actively working in that direction, and you will be very successful.”

Dr. Anthony also highlighted the government’s commitment to building a world-class healthcare system, with a focus on decentralizing healthcare training and upgrading regional facilities.

He stressed, “If we are going to build a world-class healthcare system, it would mean that in every region, we have to develop the right facilities and train the right people to deliver this world-class system. Quality of care must be available in every region, not just in Georgetown.”

Additionally, Dr. Anthony announced that the new Lima Regional Hospital is set to be commissioned by mid-2025.

The state-of-the-art facility will feature modern amenities, including CT scan capabilities, 75 inpatient beds, advanced operating theatres, and 24-hour emergency and laboratory services, aimed at improving healthcare delivery in the region.
