Ministry of Health Distributes Hemoglobin Analyzer Machines Nationwide

The Ministry of Health has initiated the distribution of hemoglobin analyzer machines across the country.

These machines, provided to hospitals, will aid health professionals in assessing individuals’ glucose control levels.

Importantly, these blood sample tests can be conducted at any time of the day without the need for special preparations like fasting.

Dr. Nandishaw Ramsingh, the Technical Officer for Diabetes, emphasized that this effort is part of the ministry’s broader strategy to enhance screening and diabetes testing. The goal is to prevent, control, and minimize complications related to diabetes.

Dr. Ramsingh further revealed that this service will soon be available at all health centers and medical facilities in various regions nationwide.

The Ministry of Health has recently updated Guyana’s National Diabetic Guidelines, focusing on improving the quality of life for diabetic patients and reducing mortality rates. These guidelines will promote healthy nutritional and physical education for diabetes prevention and management, as well as introduce new treatment measures and testing mechanisms, including monitoring of blood pressure, kidney function, eye health, foot care, and disease prevention.

The ministry plans to continue its regional non-communicable disease outreach while implementing measures to reduce the number of cases in the country.
