The Ministry of Education has announced that this year’s National Grade Six Assessment (NGSA) saw the largest post-COVID turnout, despite some absenteeism.
With a remarkable 95% attendance rate among registered students and only a 3% absentee rate, this year’s NGSA marked a significant achievement in post-pandemic education.
Minister Priya Manickchand attributed this success to the measures implemented to ensure the retention of children in the education system during challenging times.
Optimistic about further improvements, Minister Manickchand expects the absentee rate to decrease as records from remote areas are yet to be fully reconciled.
The marking process for the NGSA has already commenced under the supervision of the Caribbean Examination Council (CXC), with results anticipated to be available on or before July 5th.
Similar to the Caribbean Secondary Education Certificate (CSEC), Grade Six pupils will have access to their results through an online portal using their Candidate Number.
In the interim, the Ministry of Education plans to offer various programs for pupils to engage in during the new term while awaiting their results.
The successful NGSA turnout reflects the Ministry’s commitment to ensuring continued access to education and excellence in academic assessments despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic.
