The Ministry of Education is working diligently on the construction, extension, and repair of nursery, primary, and secondary schools nationwide.

In the 11th Education District, Georgetown, several schools are undergoing extensions and rebuilding efforts, including those damaged by fire such as Christ Church Secondary, St. George’s High School, and North Ruimveldt Multilateral School.

However, delays by some contractors have prompted the Ministry to take action.

Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, revealed that Christ Church Secondary is at 35% completion overall, while St. George’s High School is at 75%.

Despite the delays, Minister Manickchand remains hopeful that these projects can be completed for September, especially considering that some components are prefabricated off-site, allowing for rapid progress once on-site installation begins.

President Ali has instructed repairs to be conducted at all schools, with bids currently being secured for this purpose.

The aim is to create a comfortable environment conducive to learning in nursery, primary, and secondary schools across the country.

While Guyana has achieved universal primary education, Minister Manickchand highlights the ongoing efforts to achieve universal nursery and secondary education.

These construction projects are a vital step towards facilitating this goal.
