The Ministry of Education has introduced a new intervention programme aimed at improving students’ performance in Mathematics.
This initiative, designed to address current educational challenges, was recently launched with strong support from educators and school administrators.
The programme is focused on delivering short-term results and has been welcomed by head teachers, heads of Mathematics departments, and other educational stakeholders.
They have expressed their commitment to enhancing the programme’s effectiveness while also highlighting several challenges that need to be addressed.
Educators have noted that, despite their efforts, there are significant challenges, including students arriving with varying levels of preparedness and specific learning needs.
Some teachers have pointed out that issues such as reading difficulties are impacting students’ performance in Mathematics and other subjects.
In response, Education Minister Priya Manickchand assured that the Ministry will address these concerns and collaborate with educators to improve student outcomes.
The Ministry plans to provide students with essential learning resources, including past papers, textbooks, graph books, scientific calculators, and geometry sets.
Minister Manickchand emphasized that the goal of the programme is to ensure that students not only understand Mathematics but also perform well in exams and apply their knowledge effectively in their future endeavors.
To achieve this, the Ministry may need to adapt its current approaches and consider new strategies to meet students’ needs.
The new initiative is part of a broader effort to enhance educational quality and student achievement across the school system.
