In an effort to foster youth leadership and strengthen bilateral ties, the Ministry of Education’s Unit of Allied Arts has partnered with the Chinese Embassy to inaugurate the 2024 Guyana-China Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition.
The fourth edition of this competition is open to students in grades 8, 9, and 10 from government secondary schools across Guyana’s eleven education districts.
Administrator of the Unit of Allied Arts, Nicholas Fraser, outlined the various activities included in the competition.
Participants will embark on a community project aimed at addressing local needs, critique artworks, and engage in athletic activities.
Fraser explained that eight participants will be selected from each district, totaling 88 participants nationwide.
At the conclusion of the competition, the two top-scoring students from each district will be invited to Georgetown for a special award ceremony.
These outstanding students will receive trophies and a prize of $1000 USD each.
Under the theme “Guyana and China: Moving toward Modernization Together in the Year of the Dragon,” this year’s competition celebrates 52 years of diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The selection process will commence in June, with the competition slated to conclude in October.
The Guyana-China Friendship Youth Leadership Development Competition serves as a platform for young leaders to showcase their skills, collaborate with peers, and contribute to community development.
It reflects the ongoing commitment of both the Ministry of Education and the Chinese Embassy to empower youth and nurture future leaders.
