Minister Warns Against Child Labour on World Day Against Child Labour

Marking the World Day Against Child Labour, Dr. Vindhya Persaud, the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, delivered a strong message against the exploitation of children, emphasizing their rightful place outside the workforce.

The minister’s remarks were made during a march organized by the Labour Ministry to support the global effort to end child labour.

Dr. Persaud underscored the gravity of the issue, stressing that combatting child labour is not solely the responsibility of authorities but also requires active participation from businesses and commercial entities.

She warned that employers must refrain from exploiting children, emphasizing that legal consequences await those who fail to comply with regulations, irrespective of their awareness.

Highlighting the importance of collective action, Dr. Persaud called upon individuals across various capacities to educate employers and community members about the detrimental impacts of child labour.

She urged everyone to unite in this movement to protect vulnerable children and ensure their well-being.

The minister’s impassioned plea comes amidst ongoing efforts by the government and stakeholders to eradicate child labour nationwide, aiming to create a safe and nurturing environment for Guyana’s youth.
