Minister within the Ministry of Housing and Water, Hon. Susan Rodrigues, recently met with members of the Georgetown Chamber of Commerce and Industry (GCCI) to discuss the government’s National Housing Programme.
The initiative aims to provide affordable housing options across the country through a series of projects, including house lots, homes for young professionals, low-income housing, and the Hinterland Housing Programme.
During the meeting, Minister Rodrigues emphasized the importance of public-private partnerships in ensuring the success of these housing initiatives.
She noted that the government recognizes the potential of the housing sector to not only provide affordable homes but also serve as a vehicle for wealth transfer.
However, she pointed out that achieving the programme’s goals requires collaboration with the private sector, stating that the government is committed to supporting businesses in this sector.
The discussion also covered key projects such as the development of Silica City and the availability of housing units.
Rodrigues reassured the Chamber that the government is actively addressing the large number of applications for housing, with plans to balance allocations across various regions in the coming years.
The Georgetown Chamber of Commerce commended the Ministry for its efforts in addressing the country’s housing needs and expressed their readiness to continue supporting the government’s push for national development.
