Minister Sonia Parag Satisfied with Upgrades at Skeldon Market, Pledges Continued Support

Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, expressed satisfaction with the ongoing upgrades at the Skeldon Market, which suffered a devastating fire on November 27 last year.

In response to the fire that destroyed several stalls at the Skeldon Market, the government initiated upgrade works to restore the affected areas.

With completion expected by the end of this month, Minister Parag assured additional support to better accommodate vendors and enhance their trading experience.

Minister Parag addressed sanitation concerns raised by vendors, emphasizing the importance of cleanliness for both vendors and customers.

She announced plans for the town council to assist with sanitation efforts, including bi-monthly cleaning sessions and the provision of bins.

Additionally, measures will be taken to ensure that washrooms are maintained in a clean and hygienic condition on a daily basis.

Recognizing the importance of environmental upkeep, Minister Parag pledged to collaborate with the National Drainage and Irrigation Authority to clear the nearby canal.

She appealed to vendors to maintain cleanliness in their surroundings, emphasizing collective responsibility in preserving the market’s cleanliness and attractiveness.

Accompanied by Region Six Chairman David Armogan, Mayor of Corriverton Imran Amin, and Regional Executive Officer Narindra Persaud, Minister Parag conducted an inspection of the works at the Skeldon Market.

The collaborative effort between government officials and local authorities underscores a commitment to revitalizing the market and supporting vendors’ livelihoods.

As upgrades near completion and additional support initiatives are implemented, Minister Parag remains dedicated to ensuring that the Skeldon Market becomes a thriving hub for economic activity while prioritizing the well-being of vendors and customers alike.
