October 5, 2024 — Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, conducted a youth outreach in the Mocha Arcadia community, accompanied by representatives from the Guyana Online Academy of Learning (GOAL), the Board of Industrial Training, and the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security.

During the event, residents and youth had the chance to register for various courses offered by the Board of Industrial Training, GOAL, and the Women Innovative Investment (WIIN) Program.

Minister Parag announced that similar outreach efforts will continue in the coming weeks, providing more opportunities for youth in the community.

Parag highlighted the importance of these initiatives in ensuring equitable access to valuable skills necessary for the local workforce.

She emphasized the government’s commitment to providing youth with opportunities for higher education and the chance to contribute to the economy.

The minister noted the current demand for skilled workers in areas such as plumbing and welding.

Local residents expressed their gratitude for the available programs.

Alicia Bobb, a community member, shared her excitement about finally having the opportunity to pursue education, stating that she had not been able to complete her schooling due to financial constraints.

Shonette Waithe also expressed her gratitude, mentioning her enthusiasm for enrolling in a course related to décor and events, despite being a latecomer to formal education.
