Minister Rodrigues Announces Distribution of 10,000 House Lots in 2024

by Saskia Warrick

Minister within the Housing and Water Ministry, Susan Rodrigues, has declared that another 10,000 or more house lots will be distributed this year, fulfilling a crucial aspect of the government’s manifesto promise.

Since 2020, over 30,000 applicants have been granted house lots across the nation, with 45% of recipients being single parents and 54% being young individuals.

Minister Rodrigues emphasized that while there is significant demand from Regions 3 and 4, applicants do not have the privilege of selecting the exact location.

This strategy ensures that the new housing schemes promote ethnic diversity and prevent discrimination.

Furthermore, Minister Rodrigues disclosed that housing developments cater to the joint services, ensuring that members of the military, police, and other essential services have access to housing options.

With a growing demand for low and middle-income housing, only 8% of the housing allocation is designated for high-income earners.

Minister Rodrigues expressed confidence that the government will not only meet but exceed its manifesto promise of distributing 50,000 house lots by 2025.

This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to providing affordable housing options for its citizens and promoting inclusivity in housing distribution.
