Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn has called for significant changes within the Guyana Police Force to rebuild public trust and ensure respect and empathy towards the community.
Speaking to officers, Minister Benn acknowledged the Force’s successes in reducing crime but emphasized that further improvement is necessary in how officers interact with the public.
Minister Benn stressed that officers’ conduct directly affects his reputation as the subject Minister, and he called for a shift in attitudes to match the standards expected of law enforcement.
He highlighted that the professional appearance of officers, including their uniforms, should align with their behavior and the values of the police force.
In his address, Benn also focused on the treatment of female ranks within the Force, stressing the need for respect and fairness.
He proposed the establishment of a Police Inspectorate to monitor and maintain high standards within the Force, ensuring that both policing quality and administrative practices meet the required benchmarks.
