At the weekend, the Minister of Education, Priya Manickchand, officially commissioned two new schools in Region Nine as part of the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance access to quality education across Guyana.

The first school, a 13.8-million-dollar nursery school located at Moco Moco, is designed to provide an age-appropriate learning environment for young children.

The new facility includes modern classrooms, child-friendly furniture, a playground, and essential amenities aimed at creating a safe and nurturing space for early learners to thrive academically and socially.

Minister Manickchand emphasized the government’s commitment to ensuring that every child in Guyana has access to education, saying, “We want to build so that we make sure every child could access a nursery education, every child could access a secondary, every child could access primary, and by access I mean going into the classroom.”

In addition to the nursery school, a new primary school was also commissioned in Quicko at a cost of 12.6 million dollars.

This school is equipped with spacious classrooms, modern teaching resources, and ample outdoor spaces for recreational activities.

Minister Manickchand addressed the community, stating, “We believe your children are capable of doing everything that every other child is capable of doing. What they need is the opportunity and you deserve the opportunity, and you’ve earned the right to have the same opportunities other children in other regions have.”

The commissioning of these two schools underscores the Ministry of Education’s continued efforts to expand educational opportunities in the hinterland regions and ensure that all children, regardless of location, receive a quality education.
