Dr. Vindhya Persaud, the Minister of Human Services and Social Security, recently completed a two-day outreach program in several Amerindian villages in Region Nine, where hundreds of residents accessed essential government services.

During her visit to Aishalton, Sawariwau, Katoonarib, Kumu, and Moco-Moco, residents were able to receive assistance with various programs, including old age pensions, public assistance, childcare and protection services, as well as support for domestic violence and sexual offenses.

Additionally, residents benefited from the Disability and WINN programs, which aim to provide support for vulnerable individuals.

Minister Persaud encouraged the residents to take full advantage of the services available to them.

She also announced plans to provide training for the Aishalton Village Council to enhance the skills of those involved in their Day Care Centre.

The training, which includes childcare, special needs education, and early childhood development, will be offered free of charge through the Ministry’s Child Care and Protection Agency.

Regional Chairman Bryan Allicock expressed his satisfaction with the outreach efforts, noting that Region Nine had received the most ministerial, prime ministerial, and presidential visits in the country this year.

He attributed this to the significant development taking place in the region.

As part of the outreach, 138 individuals received free eye care, including tested spectacles, from the Ministry’s eye-care program.

Minister Persaud also spread holiday cheer by distributing toys to children, ensuring that many families had a brighter Christmas.

This outreach highlights the continued commitment of the Ministry of Human Services and Social Security to support residents in remote areas, ensuring access to vital services for all Guyanese.
