Minister of Local Government and Regional Development, Sonia Parag, has called out the City Council and several town councils for underperforming in 2024, expressing concerns about the quality of services provided to residents.

During her reflections on the past year, Minister Parag pointed to the ongoing issues faced by residents in Georgetown, particularly regarding untimely garbage collection, poor drainage, and inadequate road maintenance.

She emphasized that there is a pressing need for better engagement with the public and more visible improvements in service delivery from these councils.

To tackle these challenges, the government plans to continue its support in areas such as solid waste management.

Minister Parag also highlighted that President Irfaan Ali has developed a comprehensive plan aimed at improving solid waste management and enhancing the country’s overall aesthetics in the upcoming year.

The goal is to ensure better service delivery and a more prosperous future for citizens.
