Minister of Labour Joseph Hamilton recently visited trainees participating in a four-month Board of Industrial Training (BIT) programme focused on welding, fabrication, and electrical installation in Region Seven.
During his visit, he engaged with the trainees, observing their progress and addressing their challenges.
Minister Hamilton emphasized the significance of completing the programme as a means to achieve sustainable livelihoods and enhance professional development.
He noted that many skilled individuals lack certification, highlighting that graduates of the BIT programme will be well-positioned in the job market.
He encouraged the trainees to fully embrace the opportunity and inspire others to follow similar paths.
Two trainees shared their experiences with the media. Kasmira Beaton, a welding trainee, expressed initial feelings of being left out as one of the few women in the programme, but noted how her peers made her feel comfortable and supported her learning journey.
Lisa Pereira, an electrical installation trainee, praised the programme for providing valuable skills and expressed her excitement about pursuing a career in electrical wiring.
The BIT training programme aims to equip citizens, including women, with essential skills to adapt to the country’s development needs.
