Minister of Labour, Joseph Hamilton, has called on residents of various riverine communities to take full advantage of the training opportunities offered by the Board of Industrial Training (BIT).
He emphasized that these programs are designed to reach remote areas, including communities in Mabaruma, Santa Rosa, and Santa Cruz in Region One.
Speaking on the importance of these initiatives, Minister Hamilton encouraged community members to submit proposals for training as the government prepares its pre-operational budget for the coming year.
He highlighted that this is the ideal time for villages to ensure their participation in the upcoming programs.
The Minister also urged women in particular to engage in BIT training opportunities to overcome gender biases and gain skills in traditionally male-dominated fields.
He emphasized that women’s capabilities should not be questioned, and encouraged them to break barriers and enter sectors where high-paying opportunities are available.
Since taking office in 2020, the government has successfully trained over 12,000 individuals through the BIT program, with many participants hailing from riverine communities.
These efforts continue to empower individuals with the skills needed to contribute to their communities and the broader economy.
