Agriculture Minister, Zulfikar Mustapha, provided an update on Guyana’s efforts to export honey.
He stated that challenges persist due to transshipment restrictions in Trinidad and Tobago.
Initially, Trinidad and Tobago imposed restrictions over concerns about the American Foulbrood disease, which affects honeybees.
Minister Mustapha anticipates a repeal of this law in the future.
Additionally, Minister Mustapha highlighted the positive impact of cultivating high-value crops in reducing annual food imports.
Food security has been a significant topic in CARICOM discussions, and Minister Mustapha expressed optimism about the region’s progress in growing more food and fostering trade among member states.
