Minister Hugh Todd Outlines Foreign Affairs Priorities

In a televised program, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hugh Todd, highlighted key initiatives the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will be focusing on in the coming year.

One of the primary goals is to strengthen Guyana’s role in multilateral diplomacy.

Minister Todd emphasized that Guyana’s foreign policy agenda revolves around three pillars: climate security, food security, and energy security.

These priorities align with both regional and international concerns, positioning Guyana as a global leader.

The country’s recent achievements, such as ascending to the United Nations Security Council, assuming the chairmanship of CARICOM, and hosting the 38th FAO Regional Conference for Latin America and the Caribbean, underscore its growing prominence on the international stage.

Regarding the Guyana-Venezuela border controversy, Minister Todd reiterated Guyana’s unwavering stance, emphasizing the importance of maintaining peace and upholding sovereignty and territorial integrity.

Boosting Guyana’s import and export trade is also a priority for the Ministry, with an emphasis on training diplomatic staff at various levels to effectively represent the country’s interests.

Additionally, the government plans to focus on integrating Diaspora skills to address labor gaps and provide guidance on new opportunities in various sectors.

Minister Hugh Todd expressed the need for expansion in Guyana’s role on the global stage, highlighting the importance of diplomacy in achieving these objectives.
